Eddie is an AI

Eddie is a character powered by a large language model. He is not a person, he does not have feelings, and he is wrong sometimes — confidently. Telling you he is an AI on the first turn of every session — not once at sign-up — is being built now and is listed below as unfinished.

He is built to say when he cannot do something rather than pretend. If he tells you he cannot see through your headset, or that a tool is not in the beta yet, that is the truth rather than a polite deflection.

Who this is for

VR Eddie is made for people 18 and over. We do not ask your age and we do not check it — there is no screen to click through, because nothing in VR Eddie is built to require one. Nothing here is designed for anyone under 18, and nothing here is designed to need proof of adulthood either.

VR Eddie is a familyexperience. It is not a children's product, and we do not market it as one.

We do not know your age, and the software does not guess at it: nobody is given extra limits for a question nobody asked. The break reminder comes at three hours for everyone. Any supported key works — but Google's API terms prohibit services likely to be used by under-18s, so do not use a Gemini key for a minor's session: nothing in the software will stop you. Anthropic and OpenAI keys work for talking to Eddie. If you supply no key at all, Eddie runs on our own Google Gemini account — see “Which AI you are talking to” below.

Taking breaks

The break reminder — after three hours in a session — is being built and is listed below as unfinished. Nothing prompts you today. VR is physically demanding in ways a screen is not — if you feel sick, dizzy or sore, stop. That feeling does not mean you need to push through it.

What Eddie will not do

Refusing sexual and romantic conversation — in character, rather than with a wall of policy text — is specified and not yet built. It is listed below as unfinished.

He will not pretend to be a therapist, a doctor, or your friend in a way designed to keep you talking. He is not built to maximise the time you spend with him.

If you are in crisis

The protocol for this — Eddie stopping what is running and pointing you to real help — is being built and is listed below as unfinished. Today he has no such handling, so please use the numbers below directly. He is not a substitute for any of them, and right now he is not any part of them.

• Canada: call or text 988.
• Australia: call 13 11 14 (Lifeline).
• Anywhere else: findahelpline.com lists services by country.

If someone is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

The camera: what it does and does not do

This is being built and is not switched on yet. When it is, this is exactly how it will work, and we are saying so in advance so it can be held to it:

• Eddie never looks through your camera on his own. There is no continuous vision and we are not building one.
• You point at something and ask. A sheet appears telling you exactly what is about to happen. Nothing is sent until you tap it.
• One photo goes to your own model provider, on your own API key — not to us.
• The photo is not stored. Not in your Drive, not in our database, not in our logs.
• On a Quest headset there is no camera access at all — Meta does not give web pages the camera feed. Eddie will tell you he can work out there is a table there from the room shape, but he cannot see the picture. He will not invent one.

Which AI you are talking to

If you supply your own API key — Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, xAI or OpenRouter — your conversation goes to that provider under your own account and their terms, not ours, and you can see and change which provider is active at any time.

If you supply no key, Eddie runs on a free tier on our own Google Gemini account. Your conversation then goes to Google under ourterms rather than yours, and nothing checks who is riding, because we do not ask anyone's age. Google's API terms prohibit services likely to be accessed by under-18s, so a minor should not ride keyless — give them an Anthropic or OpenAI key instead. Your own key is the full-strength path.

One uneven edge, said plainly rather than left for you to find: the Studio Architect — the part that builds a world from a description — asks for Anthropic specifically. Talking to Eddie stays on whichever key you brought; asking him to BUILD something runs on your key only when it is an Anthropic key, and otherwise on the same free tier above, on our Google Gemini account — even though you brought a key of your own. That is a gap we have not closed yet, not a paid tier.

Your memory, your worlds and the things Eddie remembers about you live in your Google Drive, in a folder this app created. We use the narrowest Drive permission there is: we can see the files Eddie made and nothing else of yours. Delete the folder and it is gone — you do not have to ask us.

Still being built

Listed here rather than quietly omitted, because a safety page that only describes finished things is not much of a safety page:

• The camera path described above is not switched on yet.
• The AI disclosure on the first turn of every session.
• The break reminder at three hours.
• The refusal of sexual and romantic conversation.
• The self-harm protocol: detecting it, stopping what is running, and pointing you at the resources above.
• Anything designed for under-18s. There is none, and none is planned for the beta.
• Our written retention and security policies are drafted and awaiting sign-off before we publish them here.

Telling us something is wrong

If Eddie says something harmful, claims something he did not do, or behaves in a way that worries you, tell us: email us. A tool claiming a success it did not have is a bug we treat as seriously as a crash.
