The VR Games Showcase Delivered — Big Time
If you missed the VR Games Showcase on March 24, you missed one of the most stacked events in recent memory. This quarterly showcase has become essential watching for anyone who cares about where VR gaming is heading, and the March edition did not disappoint.
Payday: Aces High
This was the biggest announcement of the show. Payday: Aces High is a VR-exclusive four-player co-op heist game set in the Payday universe. If you have ever wanted to plan and execute a bank job in full virtual reality with three friends, this is the game you have been waiting for. No release date beyond "2026" yet, but the trailer looked sharp and the gameplay loop looks genuinely fun. The heist genre is tailor-made for VR — coordination, tension, and chaos in equal measure — and this could become a tent-pole experience for the medium.
Panoptic 2
The original Panoptic was a cult favorite, and the sequel looks like a worthy follow-up. Panoptic 2 is an asymmetrical hide-and-seek multiplayer game pitting one VR player against up to four flatscreen challengers. It is coming to both PC VR and Meta Quest. Cross-platform multiplayer of this kind is still too rare in VR, and Panoptic 2 is exactly the sort of title that can bridge communities and get your non-VR friends invested.
Sol Protocol
Sol Protocol is a three-player co-op sci-fi roguelike heading to Meta Quest 3 in Early Access, with a PC VR release also planned. The roguelike format has proven to be an excellent fit for VR — tight loops, replayable content, and skill-based progression — and co-op makes it even better. Consider this one of the more interesting wildcards from the show.
Spymaster (from the Fisherman's Tale team)
Innerspace, the studio behind the beloved A Fisherman's Tale series, revealed Spymaster, an espionage thriller coming to Meta Quest and PC VR in Early Access later this year. Innerspace has a strong track record with narrative puzzle games, so expectations are reasonably high. The mood and setting look like a real departure from their previous work, and that ambition is exciting.
